Sod it.
My spirit is currently somewhere down below my feet. Been a very long day, masses on at work and I had to stay late to monitor the work of our IT department transferring things to a new server. Drive home, get as far as the roundabout at the end of the road and find the police have closed the high street leading to my house. Turn round, go back where I came from and guess my way home a different route. Come to my room to find a note from one of my flatmates saying as the landlady has reduced the house from 4 to 3 people, he and the other one left can't afford the rent and are moving out. Nice of you to discuss it with me guys! Now I have 2 months to either find myself 2 new flatmates and take over all the bills, or give my notice immediately and leave myself. Do I want all the bills in my name? No. Do I think I'll find 2 flatmates? Not likely. Do I want to move out? Absolutely not. That would be my 4th move in 11 months. My credit rating is bad enough already as I lived out of the UK for 6 years, without adding this to it! Why the hell can't things go right for a while? Thoroughly downhearted now. Bloody tight arsed bosses do my head in!
So yesterday afternoon, I had a briefing from the boss of my boss, explaining the brand new tier system being implemented into the engineering department of the company which, and I quote, "is a competency based pay system and has been developed to promote the philosophy of rewarding people directly for their competency as well as their qualifications, skills and experience." Sounds good don't you think? They will look at my what I do and pay me accordingly accordingly according to how these things fit onto a sliding scale. The more competencies, skills etc I have, the more I will get paid, being reviewed every 3 months. Except, to start the ball rolling, rather than look at my current skills and competencies, and move my salary into the appropriate band, they will just put me in the band that matches my current salary and then tell me, it can be reviewed in June. Fuckers! Looking at the tables (which they provided) I'm already at the very top of the range for my position, not a third of the way through! Emailed the boss of the messenger last night, asking him to explain which of the desired skills and competencies he thinks I don't have. Don't expect to hear anything until at least next week. Certainly his deputy (the guy who broke the news to me) hasn't mentioned anything and he was in copy of my mail and just came in to chat for 10 minutes. Haven't used this in months. Why? Mainly because I'm a lazy bastard. Not going to start using it now either, but felt the urge to write something about my friends. Wonderful people and rocks, the lot of you. Thank you for supporting me over the last few weeks, thank you for making my birthday the best for 12 years, thank you for being my friends. If I can ever repay any of you for the service you have done, don't even think about asking, just do it. | | Thursday, April 27th, 2006 | | 10:58 am |

Yeah!
Had a great week with Annika who arrived Friday evening and left yesterday. Spent some time with Ian and her, spent some time with her alone, came third in the pub quiz and won free beer... Really was nice. Next time I see her is in 6 weeks time in England for my parents 35th anniversary. And of course the PR easter meetup ;) Today, I had a call on my mobile while I was at work with no number. Decided not to answer because: a) I don't trust people who don't leave numbers b) It COULD have been Virgin and I didn't want to talk to them in my office. They didn't leave a message so couldn't have been important anyway. Got home tonight and had an answerphone message... "Hi, this is Claire from Virgin Recruitment, could you please call me back on..." Wooooooooo!!!!! I called back but no answer - I guess they finish at 5pm. Tomorrow I will be right on to it. Women! So, Annika said she would come to Toulouse to visit me. Then my mum invited her to England for my parents 35th anniversary celebration. Annika said "I can't afford to do both". I said I wanted her with me for the anniversary thing but I'd really like her to visit me at home. I said I would pay for the flights for one of the trips. I ended up booking both and she said she'd pay me back for it when she came here. That was all in the first week of January. So now, we are 2 days away from her visiting me in Toulouse. NOW she remembers that she hasn't paid for either trip and for some reason has decided it's not right for me to pay so she has to pay me back for both. I'm not happy about that anyway. I've tried to explain, but to no avail, that it's not charity, but it's something I want - no different than if I'd paid for flights for me to go there. Still she insists she wants to pay. So ok, I say, it's about 250€ you owe me. So then she cries because it's so much money. Now her dad is going to lend it to her and she feels better. But I don't. I don't want her sodding money! Is that so wrong??? Current Mood: aggravated | | Monday, February 20th, 2006 | | 7:54 am |
Ow. Just ow.
Ian arrived on Thursday for a weekend skiing. But... We went in my car which is far too small to fit my skis and his board in. So he said "well as I have to hire, I may as well try skis". Now Ian and I have had an agreement for a few years that when he learned to ski, I would learn to snowboard. So that's what I did. After one day, I hurt like hell. A Reasonably Nasty Anal Injury (RNAI), burning thighs, abs and a head ache. After yesterday morning, I can add a painful neck too. And that, along with my frustration at not being good enough made me take the board back and ski in the afternoon (Ian kept his skis). I can however turn on my heel and go down the hill with either foot forward. Just can't turn on my toe without falling face first. Still, at least I tried :) Last night, went to the pub, had a nice curry and entered the quiz. We were brilliant and fairly sure that we should have won. Unfortunately though, for some reason the metro closed at 11 last night, so we had to leave before the answers were given. Damn. Ian returns on Thursday - I have the day off work and Friday we will ski again. Friday evening Annika arrives. Her first visit to France and to my humble abode. I can't wait. And she's staying until the 1st ::)) Current Mood: chipper | | Friday, February 17th, 2006 | | 10:05 am |

Your propensity for monogamy is medium. In general, you prefer to have only one love interest. But it's hard for you to stay devoted for too long! There's too much eye candy to keep you from wandering.
Experience Level:
Your experience level is medium. You probably have had a couple significant loves. And you may have even had your heart broken. But you haven't really dated a wide variety of people.
Dominance:
Your dominance is low. This doesn't mean you're a doormat, just balanced. You know a relationship is not about getting your way. And you love to give your sweetie a lot of freedom.

Had a nice takeaway Chinese last night - satay beef and fried noodles, washed down with a bottle of wine. Made me feel much happier about my pathetic interview. This morning I have applied to Virgin for a job I'm certain I could do easily. Question is, do they realise it? And if they do, would they be willing to wait the 3 months notice I have to give? And would they be willing to pay relocation costs? hmmm... Annika has a medical this morning with the school nurse and I hope she's going to tell her about all the headaches she's been having. Valentines day - hope you all enjoy it. For me it's a farce. It's the first one EVER that I've actually wanted to celebrate. But Anni is in Finland still, I accidentally opened the present she sent to me last week (wasn't wrapped, just put in the box to post it in). She didn't send a card which, I have to confess, I'm a bit disappointed about. Only ever had one valentines card. I sent her a card which she got and opened yesterday and the present I'm having delivered to her from the UK hasn't arrived :( Current Mood: blank | | Monday, February 13th, 2006 | | 3:56 pm |
It's over. Boss was all apologetic for being useless over the last 2 years but said it wasn't his fault. He promised me I can take the lead for starting to develop ways to provide 3D illustrations to airlines for the A350. Well that was only launched in October and won't be delivered to airlines until 2012. Do I want to be still at the same level, working for the same boss in 6 years? Do I bollocks. I apply to Virgin tomorrow and I speak to my neighbour (an HR guy for the company) and look at ways of leaving this place. Current Mood: irritated | | 8:12 am |
Woot! And boo! [+] - England are now the only team in the 6 nations who haven't yet lost a match. Well done fellas! Well done also to France and Wales :D [-] - Have my annual interview today with my boss. Will be a biggy. I'm preparing to tell him I'm severely hacked off that he's not given me the new position he promised last year. I think unless he offers something special, I'm going to ask to be transferred back to the UK. I'm relishing this interview actually. The problem is that he just postponed it until 16.00 instead of 14.00. Well, I suppose at least it means if I ask for the transfer I don't have to sit and look at him for the rest of the afternoon. I'll keep you informed. Other news. STILL not finished cleaning my apartment. Not much to do though, just put a few things away and then vacuum and mop the hall and lounge. And RE-mop the bathroom because I was inept this morning and managed to spill half my shower water over the floor. How come I only ever do that the day after I mopped??? | | Friday, February 10th, 2006 | | 1:22 pm |
Built and slept in the bed last night. Had to improvise a little as the guy that gave it to me lost the things used to hold it together. I enjoyed that! Very nice it looks too, with dark blue cotton bedding. Very large for one person. It feels odd. Still, 2 weeks today Annika will be here and that solves that problem for a week! Being together with her now for 4 months today. How time flies! Tonight I shall relax, cook a stirfry, watch a DVD, smoke a cigar and just generally chill. Tomorrow morning up early-ish to continue my tidying and then to the pub to watch lots of rugby. | | Thursday, February 9th, 2006 | | 2:46 pm |
I have a double bed at last! And in other news. Yes, this sounds like me. Only did it once too. Oh and yeah, had an email from Annika's mum today thanking me for calling her and sending a get well soon card (she had a thyroid operation last week). She signed it off "Gun (mother in law)". | | Monday, February 6th, 2006 | | 2:07 pm |
Woot, what a weekend! I now have immaculate carpets in my bedrooms (which I can't stand on yet as they are still wet), a fully defrosted fridge freezer and a non-leaking coffee filter machine. Simple pleasures And then we come to the rugby. Oh my lord, what a weekend. Ireland having a close run-in with Italy, England destroying Wales and France losing to Scotland. Today is a good day at work! Am I really mean in hoping that Scotland don't win any more games this year? I mean, it's nothing against them - just that they have now won just 2 games in 3 years. It would be SOOOOO good to know that the victims were Italy and France Getting bits of my double bed today too. All is coming together nicely. If I could just find a new flatmate in the middle of March it would be perfect. A bit fucked off with Annika at the moment though. She's been feeling ill all week and Saturday night was throwing up. Yesterday she worked at the hospital and did a test on herself finding that her blood pH was way out. No idea what that means, but I'm sure it's not good. Will she see a doctor? No. :| |
